Provide advice and counsel to client businesses on open source software related patent issues. Support outbound patent licensing and patent cross licensing efforts. Evaluate third party patent infringement claims against parent company's products or technologies and provide guidance and counsel to executives. Support in-house and outside patent litigation attorneys in patent litigations.

The candidate should have graduated from an ABA accredited law school and be admitted to practice in at least one state in the US. Should be admitted to practice before the USPTO. Should have a Bachelor's degree in EE or CS or significant software experience. Computer industry experience is desirable. Advanced technical degree a plus. Must have 5+ years of experience in patents, including general patent counseling, patent related transactions and licensing, patent opinion work (invalidity/non-infringement) and/or patent litigation, and preparation and prosecution of patent applications. Should have a passion for technology, strong communications skills, particularly in counseling or communicating with senior executives, and strong collaboration skills. Patent litigation experience is preferred. Should have experience working with products in a global setting and with a broad international user community.

Patent Counsel - Preparation and Prosecution
The candidate will understand the technology, business plans, product roadmaps, and domestic and international patent laws, and to work in a cooperative atmosphere to achieve this goal. Will work closely with engineering and/or business units to understand how their intellectual property provides benefit to company and provide quality patent legal advice resulting in a high quality patents. Other responsibilities include understanding the technology being supported, evaluating inventions for patentability and value, leading patent review boards, working with US and international counsel to ensure high quality patents, and evaluating the impact of prior art searches.

The candidate should have a J.D. degree, USPTO registration, and at least one State Bar registration. A Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer science is preferred. Engineering and law firm experience a plus. Must have 3+ years of experience in preparing and prosecuting US and international patent applications. Should be registered to practice before the USPTO and admitted to the Bar of at least one state.
