The candidate will participate in and supervise multiple and challenging executive compensation engagements for a diverse client base, both in and out of the transaction setting, as well as take an active role in managing and growing National Compensation practice and service delivery. The candidate will report directly to the Senior Director of Tax Planning and Strategy. Will assist with US Tax planning and managing the US federal tax controversy process as well as providing support for state and local tax controversy. Manage the US federal audit defense process. Provide support as needed for the state and local tax audit defense process. Provide oversight for the non-US audit process. Track and monitor status of tax controversies globally. Interface with Tax Legal on all controversy matters. Serve as the primary interface with taxing authorities. Review and submit audit information to taxing authorities or other external requests. Negotiate tax audits and communicate status/risk with recommendations for appeals and settlements. Review US audit assessments, analyze risk/benefit profile of audit positions, and recommend action to be taken. Identify uncertain tax positions (UTPs). Maintain documentation related to the assessment of UTPs. Monitor changes to uncertain tax positions due to domestic and foreign audit activity. Communicate UTPs to tax reporting team to ensure proper disclosure for reporting and compliance. Develop and monitor risk management plan. Monitor tax rulings and law changes for implications on audit defense. Participate in regular reviews of business unit operations to ascertain risks, implement risk mitigation plans, document business processes and find tax savings opportunities. Assist with the tax impact of new business initiatives including acquisitions, dispositions and joint ventures. Research and draft technical memos to support tax strategies and positions taken.

The candidate should have an undergraduate degree in accounting or equivalent. Should also have a Master's in taxation and/or J.D. degree. CPA is preferred. Must have 10+ years of related tax controversy, planning and research. Should have comprehensive understanding of federal and state and local income tax laws. Must have broad knowledge of international tax issues. Should have experience with tax planning initiatives. Must have experience in identifying, analyzing and communicating complicated tax issues in terms of impact on business operations. Should have familiarity with income tax accounting reporting and standards (FAS 109, IAS 212, FAS 123R, etc.). Must have strong foundation in accounting for uncertain tax positions (FIN48). Proven management experience is needed. Comprehensive knowledge US tax laws is a must.
