Marriott International names new associate GC Hospitality giant Marriott International, Inc., has announced the appointment of W. David Mann as Senior Vice President and Associate General Counsel of Corporate, Transactions, Finance, and Governance. In his new role, Mann will work on corporate finance matters, mergers and acquisitions, and securities issues; he will also handle legal work for Marriott's corporate secretary's office. He will move from The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Marriott International, to the headquarters of Marriott International. A worldwide leader in providing luxury hotel accommodations and related lodging facilities, Marriott International was formed in 1993 when Marriott Corporation split into Marriott International and Host Marriott Corporation. MIT introduces GC position The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has appointed R. Gregory Morgan as its first general counsel. A specialist in securities law and mergers and acquisitions, Morgan served as Co-Managing Partner of Los Angeles-based Munger, Tolles & Olson, LLP, before he left the firm to work as an adviser and director of nonprofit organizations. The new general counsel post at MIT will consolidate the institute's legal work, which was previously handled by several offices, including the senior counsel's office and the intellectual property office. A world-class educational institution operating five schools and a college, MIT educates students in science, technology, and other areas of scholarship relevant to the 21st century. Altus hires life sciences expert Biopharmaceutical giant Altus Pharmaceuticals, Inc., has hired Bruce A. Leicher to serve as the company's Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary. Leicher will oversee all legal issues involving corporate governance and compliance, regulatory, business development, intellectual property, and general corporate matters. He brings with him 15 years of experience in the life sciences industry and was most recently Vice President, General Counsel, Secretary, and Compliance Officer at Antigenics, Inc. Altus Pharmaceuticals develops and markets injectable and oral protein therapeutics for patients with gastrointestinal and metabolic disorders. Signature Leisure recruits in-house counsel Barbara Moran has been appointed as In-House Legal Counsel for Signature Leisure, Inc. Moran will draft SEC filings and legal documents and will work on a variety of other projects. A member of the Florida bar, Moran has worked with several Fortune 500 companies. The move will reduce Signature Leisure's legal costs, decrease its dependence on outside law firms, and increase its overall efficiency as a fully reporting company. Signature Leisure is presently a development-stage company focusing on varied service markets, including IT services, event staffing, and vehicle sales. Former Interior Secretary to serve as GC at Shell Royal Dutch Shell has hired former Interior Secretary Gale Norton to serve as general counsel in its exploration and production department. Norton will provide and coordinate legal services for Shell's unconventional-resources unit, which develops and tests technology designed to aid in the recovery of oil from shale and extra-heavy oils. She has been with the Department of the Interior for five years and has received praise from industrialists, as well as criticism from environmentalists for her pro-development policies relating to oil and gas, coal, and timber. A global player in the energy and petrochemical fields, Shell has interests in the oil, gas, hydrogen, biofuels, wind, and solar power sectors. |
