Hughes joins Bell Microproducts as GC and secretary Bell Microproducts, Inc. has announced the appointment of Andrew Hughes as the company's new general counsel and secretary. Hughes will assume global responsibility for all of Bell's legal matters. He will mainly oversee general corporate legal activities, contracts, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, and securities. He will also serve as legal advisor to Bell Microproducts' senior management and board of directors. With more than 15 years of legal experience, he has served in various positions at several well-known legal organizations. Bell Microproducts is a global, value-added distributor of a variety of high-tech products, services, and solutions including storage systems, software, and other professional services. DE Shaw appoints Liftin as GC and MD of hedge fund DE Shaw has appointed John Liftin as the general counsel and managing director of its hedge fund, replacing the firm's former general counsel, Steven Seidemann, who retired last year. Liftin joins DE Shaw from Bank of New York where he served as general counsel. He has also worked as senior vice president and general counsel at Prudential Financial, Inc. and was a partner at New York law firm Rogers & Wells. The DE Shaw group is a global technology development and investment firm with approximately $35 billion in aggregate investment capital. The organization has offices in North America, Europe, and Asia and employs more than 1,200 people. MAP Pharmaceuticals appoints GC MAP Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has hired Charlene A. Friedman as the new vice president, general counsel and secretary. Friedman has been associated with the legal industry and practicing law for more than 25 years. She also has experience serving as general counsel at several public biopharmaceutical and medical device companies for more than 10 years. Prior to joining MAP Pharmaceuticals, Friedman served as vice president, general counsel and secretary of VNUS Medical Technologies, Inc.
