Northrop Grumman appoints new legal head International defense and technology company Northrop Grumman Corporation has announced the appointment of Philip A. Marquez as vice president, assistant general counsel, and sector counsel. Marquez, who has been associated with the company since 1988, will now be in charge of all legal matters relating to the company's space technology sector. He will report to W. Burks Terry, the company's corporate vice president and general counsel. Marquez joined Northrop Grumman as senior staff counsel in its B-2 division and has moved into positions of increasing importance; he most recently advised the company on its unmanned and high-altitude, long-endurance systems operations. A $30 billion company, Northrop Grumman has 122,000 employees serving government and commercial customers across the globe. Raleigh-based REIT hires DLA Piper partner as VP, GC, and secretary Highwoods Properties, which is headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, has announced that Jeffrey Miller will be its new vice president, general counsel, and secretary. Miller, who replaces Mack Pridgen, III, will report to Highwoods CEO Ed Fritsch. Before joining the company, he was a partner at law firm DLA Piper and, prior to that, served as a partner at Alston & Bird. At DLA Piper and Alston, Miller focused his practice on securities and corporate matters and counseled a number of leading REITs. Having regularly advised Highwoods for more than 10 years, he is familiar with all aspects of the company's business. A self-administered real estate investment trust (REIT), Highwoods Properties provides management, leasing, development, construction, and tenant-related services for its own and third-party properties. Missouri DIFP names new deputy director and general counsel Larry McCord has been named as the new Deputy Director and General Counsel of the Missouri Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions, and Professional Registration (DIFP). McCord, who currently serves as Vice President, General Counsel, and Assistant Secretary for Cameron Insurance Companies, was earlier engaged in private practice. According to Doug Ommen, the department's director, McCord's legal and business knowledge will provide the DIFP with insight regarding consumer protection and industry regulation. Serving as Mayor of Cameron, McCord is also working on his chartered property and casualty insurance underwriter's certification. DIFP aims to encourage a fair and open market for consumer-service industries. Outside counsel joins Immucor as GC Phil Moise, who has served Immucor, Inc., as outside counsel for nearly 20 years, will now be the company's vice president, general counsel, and secretary. Moise earlier worked for Immucor's two public offerings, handled the company's domestic and international acquisitions, and provided counsel on other legal matters. Prior to joining Immucor, he was a partner and co-chair of life sciences at the Atlanta office of Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan, LLP. Moise has been in private practice for 30 years and has advised 35 companies in the fields of life sciences and medical products. A specialist in developing automated instrument-reagent systems for the blood transfusion industry, Immucor caters to hospitals, reference laboratories, and donor centers. John Muir Health creates GC post A prominent name in the medical industry, John Muir Health has announced the appointment of Nancy Olson as a senior vice president and its first general counsel. In her new role, Olson will oversee compliance matters and will work towards establishing a legal services department for the healthcare system. She comes from Sutter Health, where she served as assistant general counsel and provided legal advice to a number of Sutter's Bay-area hospitals. Offering inpatient clinical-treatment services, hospital facilities, and medical equipment, the John Muir Health system includes Walnut Creek's 321-bed John Muir Medical Center, 251-bed campus in Concord, and the John Muir Physician Network. |
