Michael Brizel: General Counsel for Saks, Inc. By Charisse Dengler
After Hansen leaves his position on May 4, Brizel will take over, reporting to chief executive Steve Sadove and working out of the company's New York office, as Saks is moving many of its offices from their current location in Birmingham, AL, to New York. Throughout his career, Brizel has worked in the areas of human resources law, corporate and commercial law, and litigation management. He has worked for The Reader's Digest Association since 1989 and has served as its general counsel since 2002. Armed with a law degree from Cornell Law School, he has also worked for General Foods Corporation and the law firm of Summit, Rovins and Feldesman. Brizel will manage all legal issues concerning the company's 54 Saks Fifth Avenue stores, 49 Saks Off fifth stores, website (www.saks.com), and Club Libby Lu specialty stores.
