CDC Corporation promotes Liou to GC The owner of China.com, CDC Corporation, has promoted Kim Liou, who will now serve as the company's general counsel. Reporting to Chief Executive Peter Yip, Liou will manage the worldwide legal team and oversee the legal policies of the company, as well as handle securities and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, litigation, and intellectual property matters. Liou formerly worked as senior legal counsel for the company. CDC Corporation, which focuses on enterprise software, mobile applications, and online games, has 2,000 employees and serves 3,500 customers globally. NASA appoints Bierbower to Senior Executive Service position NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center has appointed William Bierbower as Chief Counsel in the Office of the Chief Counsel, a federal Senior Executive Service position; the federal Senior Executive Service staffs the top managerial posts in approximately 75 federal agencies. Bierbower will oversee the office and work on legal and regulatory issues affecting the Marshall Center and its organizations. Prior to assuming this post, he worked as Directorate Lead Counsel for the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington. Texas comptroller appoints new GC In a series of appointments, Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts Susan Combs has announced the promotion of Martin Cherry, the former Chief Deputy Counsel at the Comptroller's Office, to General Counsel. Combs, who was recently named comptroller, has brought over a number of former staff members from the Texas Department of Agriculture to work with her in the comptroller's office. The Texas comptroller's office is responsible for collecting state revenue, tracking state expenditures, and monitoring the financial condition of the state. Avnet promotes in-house attorneys Neil Taylor has been named Deputy General Counsel and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer for Avnet, Inc., a leading marketer and distributor of electronic components, computers, and embedded subsystems. Having joined Avnet in 1997 as an associate, Taylor will now provide legal support for the company's operations in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, as well as provide oversight of global litigation and compliance. The company has also announced the appointment of Jun Li as Associate General Counsel. Li, who joined Avnet in April 2005, will work on securities law, capital markets transactions, and corporate governance matters. Nevada Gold appoints GC Owner and operator of gaming facilities and lodging entertainment facilities Nevada Gold & Casinos, Inc., has hired Ernest E. East, who will serve as General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer, and Senior Vice President. East brings with him 30 years of extensive legal experience and knowledge and will oversee the company's existing projects, working toward the continued growth of the business. Prior to joining Nevada Gold, he was Chief Legal Officer of Global Trust Management, LLC. Headquartered in Houston, Nevada Gold & Casinos operates businesses in Colorado, California, and New York. |
