US Airways appoints Minerva VP, Legal U.S. Airways' board of directors has promoted Associate General Counsel and Managing Director, Legal, Michael J. Minerva to the position of Vice President, Legal. Minerva has 12 years of experience in the aviation industry. He will focus on legal aspects of the airline's labor, compliance, and litigation transactions, as well as other related matters. Prior to joining the airline, Minerva was a solo legal practitioner. Scott Kirby has also been promoted within the company; he has assumed office as President. Formerly, he served as Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing. As President, Kirby will retain his present duties, which include pricing, scheduling and planning, marketing, forming alliances, overseeing distribution, managing reservations, and implementing information technologies; he will also take on new tasks, including airport customer service, finance management, and labor relations. Upcoming West Coast General Counsel Conference Corporate Counsel magazine is organizing the fourth annual West Coast General Counsel Conference, to be held in California this November. Topics to be discussed at the gathering of peers include augmenting cost-effective strategies for litigation, trial tactics and ADR, the role of the general counsel as a business advisor to the corporation, and leadership qualities, among others. Jeffrey W. Epstein is new Motient Corporation GC Motient Corporation appointed Jeffrey W. Epstein General Counsel and Secretary, entrusting him with responsibility for supervising the company's legal affairs. HealthSouth formally appoints Executive VP, GC, and CS Birmingham-based HealthSouth Corporation has formally named John Whittington Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary; Whittington has been serving in the position on an interim basis since July. The company finalized his appointment to the post based on his vast experience in the legal field. Prior to joining the company, Whittington was a partner in Bradley, Arant, Rose & White, LLP. With 35 years of experience in the legal profession, Whittington is an expert on corporate law and has been involved in several complex business reorganization cases. HealthSouth is one of the nation's largest providers of outpatient surgery, diagnostic imaging, and rehabilitative healthcare services. CPS Energy hires GC CPS Energy has appointed Carolyn Shellman General Counsel. As part of the local gas and electric utility management team, Shellman will report to the company's general manager and CEO. Prior to joining CPS, Shellman was Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary of Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), where she was responsible for corporate legal, governmental affairs, and external communications matters.
