Actors' labor union names new GC The nation's largest labor union representing working actors, the Los Angeles-based Screen Actors Guild (SAG), promoted entertainment labor attorney Duncan Crabtree-Ireland to General Counsel. Crabtree-Ireland will lead the guild's affairs and strategy section; he also will be in charge of its legal, governance, and affirmative action/diversity departments. He joined the guild's legal team in 2000 and was subsequently promoted to Assistant General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel. As head of the legal department, Crabtree-Ireland will be required to maintain an up-to-date understanding of technology and how it affects the guild's television and film contracts. SAG currently represents approximately 120,000 working actors in various media groups, including film, television, commercials, and music videos. CA restructures top legal brass Leading software management company CA appointed Amy Fliegelman Olli Executive Vice President and Co-General Counsel. Olli will be in charge of the company's law department and will look after all legal activities relating to software licensing, intellectual property, litigation, and acquisitions. Prior to assuming this position, Olli was IBM Vice President and General Counsel, Americas, and Co-Global Coordinator, Sales and Distribution. CA's current general counsel, Kenneth V. Handal, has been named Executive Vice President for Governance and will work primarily on regulatory and compliance issues. Handal is entrusted with additional co-general counsel responsibilities and will continue to hold a corporate secretary position, wherein he will handle compliance, internal audit, and global security areas. AIG appoints new executive VP and GC New York-based American International Group (AIG), Inc., has appointed Anastasia Kelly Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Senior Regulatory and Compliance Officer. Kelly's company responsibilities include leading a team of 400 lawyers and managing regulatory and compliance issues. Previously, Kelly worked for MCI/WorldCom as Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Chief Legal Officer. AIG companies serve commercial, institutional, and individual customers through the most extensive worldwide property-casualty and life insurance networks of any insurer. In addition, AIG companies are the world's leading providers of retirement, financial, and asset management services. Harland hires Phil Theodore as senior VP and GC Atlanta-based John H. Harland Company, a software and printed products supplier, appointed Phil Theodore Senior Vice President and General Counsel. Replacing John Walters, who is due to retire in early 2007, Theodore will assume responsibility for Harland's legal and corporate governance activities. Theodore was formerly Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary for Serologicals Corporation. He is an expert in corporate law and specializes in mergers, acquisitions, corporate governance, and corporate finance. Harland supplies software and printed products to various financial institutions and to the educational market. Aptuit has new VP and GC Connecticut-based Aptuit, Inc., a drug research company, appointed John Fikre Vice President and General Counsel. Fikre will assist the company with mergers and acquisitions, as well as joint venture activities. As erstwhile Special Counsel at Willkie Farr & Gallagher, he assisted several domestic and international clients in private and public mergers and acquisitions, financial transactions, capital market offerings, and corporate governance. He earlier served as Vice President of Corporate Development, General Counsel, and Secretary for Lynch Interactive Corporation, a publicly traded company based in New York. Aptuit expects to benefit from Fikre's expertise in global business transactions and financial dealings; the company focuses on streamlining and supporting drug development processes for biotechnological and pharmaceutical innovators. Weyerhaeuser names senior VP and GC Weyerhaeuser Company appointed Sandy D. McDade Senior Vice President and General Counsel. McDade has been associated with the company's law department for the past 20 years and has held a number of positions, including Corporate Secretary and Assistant General Counsel. He previously was Senior Vice President, International and Industrial Wood Products. He was instrumental in introducing changes to the company's portfolio, including a successful negotiation that combined the Weyerhaeuser Fine Paper Business with Domtar, Inc. With operations in 18 countries, Weyerhaeuser is principally engaged in growing and harvesting timber; manufacture, distribution, and sale of forest products; and real estate construction and development. |
