Northrop hires employment and corporate counsels Los Angeles-based Northrop Grumman Corporation has given promotions to Steven C. Babb and Malcolm S. Swift. In his new role, Babb will be responsible for legal advice relating to labor and employment law matters, whereas Swift will serve as Vice President and Assistant General Counsel for M&A, where he will be responsible for legal advice relating to mergers, acquisitions, divestment, and antitrust. Babb joined Northrop Grumman as Senior Staff Counsel in the labor and employment division and was promoted to Corporate Director and Senior Corporate Counsel with responsibility for delivery of all legal advice relating to labor and employment matters throughout the company. Swift joined the company as Senior Staff Counsel in the aircraft division, now a part of Northrop Grumman's Integrated Systems sector. He was most recently responsible for handling all mergers, acquisitions, and antitrust legal services to the corporation. WCF GC recognized for excellence in community service Sponsored by Utah law firm Kirton & McConkie and Connect Magazine, XO Awards has recognized Dennis Lloyd—General Counsel for the Workers' Compensation Fund—for excellence in community service in the state of Utah. The awards committee stated that the XO Awards are "to celebrate amazing people who do extraordinary acts of kindness, yet never receive the recognition they deserve." Lloyd was nominated for his silent hard work in establishing and expanding a number of "extraordinarily kind" programs at the Workers' Compensation Fund. His creations include the Legacy of Learning Scholarship Program, which provides educational assistance to the spouses and children of employees who have lost their lives in job-related accidents. The awards recognized other people who have applied extraordinary efforts to serve the people of Utah. UCA appoints Courtway as GC University of Central Arkansas has appointed Tom Courtway as General Counsel and Director of Governmental Relations. Several issues pertaining to the 2006 general election bond and the coming 2007 General Assembly have prompted the university to expand the Courtway's current job profile. His legal expertise as state representative and past experience as Vice President for Planning and Operations of Hendrix College will serve the university well. OMRIX announces new GC OMRIX Biopharmaceuticals, Inc., announced the appointment of Nanci Prado as Vice President and General Counsel. Prado will handle matters related to the company's corporate, securities compliance, governance, and general legal issues. Prior to joining the company, she worked in the New York office of Dorsey & Whitney, LLP, as a partner in the corporate group. With vast experience in law firms, Prado has counseled several public companies on various issues, including corporate governance, equity and debt financing, M&A, and securities compliance. OMRIX, a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company, will leverage Prado's corporate legal experience, which will help fulfill the reporting needs required of a public company. D-Wave System promotes Rothe to GC Tanya Rothe has been promoted to General Counsel of D-Wave Systems, Inc. Rothe has significant experience form her previous employment at Bull, Housser & Tupper—where she was involved with commercial litigation—and Ballard Power Systems, Inc., where she worked as Intellectual Property Counsel for five years. Products manufactured by D-Wave Systems include high-performance quantum computing systems, which are commercially used in electronic design automation, quantitative finance, physical and life sciences, bioinformatics, and logistics. Shopping site shops for novel GC Julie Culver has been named Corporate Secretary and General Counsel of Shop.com, a Monterey, CA-based online shopping company. Culver had served as Deputy District Attorney for Monterey County and has significant experience as a corporate attorney at a number of technology start-up ventures. She will work with Ken Goldstein, the new company CEO, who was Managing Director and Executive Vice President at Disney Online. |
