GCs endorsed as Chief Executives In a rare move, two major companies have promoted their General Counsels to Chief Executives. Jeff Kindler has been named Chief Executive of Pfizer, while Paul Goldean has been named Interim Chief Executive at Scottish Re. Having joined Pfizer in 2002, Kindler has overseen the company's affairs in legal, corporate, compliance, and public policy matters. Goldean has been appointed Chief Executive after serving the Bermuda-based Scottish Re for more than four years. Pfizer is an internationally known pharmaceutical company, with 106,000 employees and revenue of $51.3 billion annually. Engaged in reinsurance of life insurance, annuities and annuity products, Scottish Re was formed in 1998 and has emerged as one of the leading life re-insurers in the U.S. New GC at NCTA Steven Morris has been appointed Associate General Counsel at National Cable & Telecommunications Association in Washington. Having worked as an Attorney Advisor at the FCC, Morris most recently served as Deputy Chief of the Pricing and Policy Division of the FCC. He has also served Metro Networks and law firms Hogan & Hartson and Dow Lohnes & Albertson. NCTA is represented by cable operators who serve more than 90 percent of the country's cable television subscribers and more than 200 cable program networks. Equifax elects Marshall to its board The board of Directors of Equifax, Inc., has chosen Siri S. Marshall as the newest member of the board's governance committee. Marshall will serve a two-year term. Most recently, Marshall was Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary and Chief Governance and Compliance officer at General Mills, Inc., and previously worked as a member of The New York Stock Exchange, Legal Advisory Committee. Equifax is a global service provider of value-added information solutions to clients since 1899 and has 4,400 employees located in 12 countries. New GC position at ADVENTRX The newly created position of General Counsel has been bestowed upon Patrick Keran at ADVENTRX Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Coming from Isis Pharmaceuticals, Inc., where he worked as Associate General Counsel, Keran has experience in working for law firms Heller Ehrman, LLP, and Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison, LLP, in their corporate and commercial practices. ADVENTRX is focused on introducing the treatments for cancer and other infectious diseases and is chiefly a biopharmaceutical research and development company. Meisburg nominated for NLRB's GC position Ronald E. Meisburg has been nominated by President Bush to serve as General Counsel at the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) for a four-year term. He has served the Board as Special Assistant to the NLRB's Associate General Counsel for Enforcement and as Executive Assistant to the NLRB's Deputy General Counsel. Most recently, Meisburg served as a shareholder in law firm Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart. Formed by Congress in 1935, NLRB administers the National Labor Relations Act, which implements the national labor policy by assuring free choice and encouraging collective bargaining as a means of maintaining industrial peace. LifePoint hires law firm partner as GC LifePoint Hospitals, Inc., appointed Paul Gilbert as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary. Prior to joining LifePoint, Gilbert has served as a partner at the Nashville office of Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis. He is known for his knowledge and expertise in matters related to investor-owned hospitals, corporate governance, healthcare transactions, and joint ventures. LifePoint Hospitals is a leader in hospital industry and provides healthcare services to the non-urban communities. |
